Here is a quick low down on the best types of meditation for beginners. If you have ever thought you wanted to meditate, then meditation is for you.
Most people shy away from meditation because they believe that they aren’t disciplined enough, or that they have inadvertently joined a religion, but this is not the case.
Meditation is as good for the soul as stretching is for the body. Since we are also all about manifesting here, meditation is one of the top five most valuable tools for manifesting your desires. Take a look at the list below, find a style that works for you or mix them up for variety.
Types of Meditation
Mindfulness meditation is one of the most popular kinds of meditation. You bring all your awareness to the present moment. You do this by sitting straight-backed in a chair, the floor, or your bed, while paying attention to your breath. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, and breathe out. Do this for the duration of your meditation, and you are meditating.
Your Mind: At this point most of us are about to go nuts chasing down the chatter in our heads, or the noises around you, simply refocus your awareness to your breath. Breathe in, Breathe out.
With Mantra Meditation, you begin by picking a mantra you want to repeat. It can be a simple word like that peace, love, happy. You can also go for the truly tried, OM Mantra.
You assume your meditation position and ease into the meditation by gently, silently, and effortlessly, repeating your mantra for the duration. The repetition of the mantra will help calm your mind and focus your awareness.
Chakra Mediation is one of my favorite styles of meditation. Your chakra is the energy center of the body. You have seven chakras running from your tailbone to the top of your head. With a better understanding of the chakras, you can use chakra meditation to cleanse and energize your chakras.
With Chakra meditation, you visualize cleansing or energizing your chakras with light, sound or the placement of your hand. Cleansing or energizing your chakras can help bring healing to emotions or issues you might have with blockages in certain chakras.
Like in the Mindfulness Meditation, you will be focusing your awareness on your breath, this time, you will also focus your awareness on the thoughts that pass through your mind, and all that you observe in your environment and then, you simply let them float away. I promise you this is not the same as Mindfulness Meditation, as reassured me by all the books and websites I researched for this post.
With Zen Meditation, you are focusing on the breath from your belly. You should be sitting up straight and your eyes are open but gazing down.
Visualization Meditation is a more active form of meditation, you will welcome thought as you will be visualizing the outcomes you desire.
Start by doing three to five minutes of Zen Meditation. When you find yourself in a blissful relaxed state, turn your focus on to what you desire. Visualize yourself having achieved the thing you desire, feel it, touch it, live it. Stay in the visualization for the duration of your meditation. I would suggest adding the mantra: “This or something better that is mine by Divine Right” at the end of the visualization meditation.
