Learn to Control Your Thoughts and Change your life

Posted on January 27, 2007

“The mind has exactly the same power as the hands; not merely to grasp the world, but to change it.” -Colin Wilson

How can you change your life? The answer is simple, with the power of your mind. All that you have created in your life originated from your thoughts. I often hear how hard or impossible it is to control your thoughts but the opposite it true, you can control your thoughts all it takes is a lot more vigilance and hard work than you expected. Then it becomes second nature and hard work part is gone, but the vigilance is eternal, i.e. you never stop controlling your thought.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. – Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826)

Using the power of the mind is what personal development is all about. You decide to take control of your life by making a “conscious” effort because you know that is what it is going to take to create the life you want. You name a goal you wish to accomplish and tell me how you will accomplish it without using your mind. The point here is to learn how to use the tool, the mind, to your advantage so you can get from point “A” to point “B” in the shortest and most opportune time for you.

What is the point?
You have created the life you are living today from the dominant thoughts you are engaged in now and in your past. The simple answer to changing your life is changing your thoughts. If you constantly think about how much debt you are in, you can rest assured you will end up with more debt. If you constantly worry that every mussel of food you put in your mouth will go straight to your thighs, guess what, that is exactly the destination of that mussel even if it is a carrot. So even without realizing it you have used been using the power of your mind all your life, now it is time to take control of your thoughts and create the life of your dreams.

Do Something
A simple remedy for taking control of your negative thoughts is to immediately substitute them for positive thoughts. Start to jut down the reoccurring negative thoughts you have about yourself, the people around you, your environment, your job and life in general. Then take another sheet of paper and write the positive alternatives. How this works: Let’s say your dominant thought about yourself is “I am ugly” when ever that thought comes to your mind you immediately say, “I am beautiful”, and you repeat the positive alternative until that thought is push out of your mind and you are on to the next thing.
