Create a Master Plan for Your Life

Posted on July 25, 2008

After you have formed a clear and defined a mental picture of what you want, you must now set clearly defined goals that will lead to the creation of your ideal life. These clearly defined goals are one component of your master plan.

If you need a plan for a business you are opening or thinking of opening. I should rephrase that: YOU MUST HAVE A PLAN BEFORE OPENING ANY BUSINESS. Any one that tells you otherwise is leading down a wrong and painful path. But that is not the point I am trying to make. What I am trying to say is that if you need a plan for a business (one aspect of your whole life), then why don’t people think it is important to have a plan for their lives.

Your master plan is a document that lists every stop on the way you to your success. The master plan is important because it includes everything you need to do to create your ideal life. It is your one stop documents for every question you have about where your life is going. Creating a master plan is one of the first and most important things you will do if you want the science of getting rich to work for you.

Your master plan is your guide up that mountain, it tells you when to stop to rest, it tells you what direction you’re going, it gives you an idea of what you will see along the way, and it tells you what you will see when you get to the top of the mountain.

Enough of the mountain (the mountain is your goal). Sometimes it might seem like you’re climbing a mountain But like the saying goes, how do you get to the top of the mountain? One step at a time.

The most invaluable thing about your master plan is sometimes you lose your way, you’re not sure what the next step to take is, or you just can not seen the big picture anymore. However, if you have already taken the time to create new master plan, getting back on track is a lot easier than trying to figure out everything from scratch.

If you have to spend every day or every week starting from scratch you will find yourself roaming around the same little circle, it is not effective use of your time, you will soon become frustrated and abandoning your goal will not be too far behind. That is why I always stress the fact that you should be begin this process with a clear picture of what you want the outcome to be and create a master plan to guide you there.

You will have many tools to use along the way but if you don’t know what you are using them for, then the whole process is pointless. What we are now trying to avoid is to have you keep starting from scratch year after year after year. Just as we are trying to prove that the science of getting rich, the proof that there is a science to success, we also know that there is a science to failure. as I albert Eistein said “Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.” if you start every year with a new set of goals but no big picture as to where you are heading to then what is the point you will find yourself right back where you started from.

A friend and I started using the destination analogy to describe our effective use of the day. We get a location one hour away from home as the location we were trying to get to. We picked another location two hours away from home as the location and we ended up on a day in we spent wasting time. We defined wasting time as days or time periods where as opposed to working or going in the right direction towards your goal for the day, you spent the time doing things that were leading you further and further away from your goals. It was that easy, so on days work done I ended up in San Jose, on days I exceeded even my expectation I got to San Jose and back home and send out again in the direction of San Jose sometimes I made it 30 minutes to San Jose sometimes I barely made it out of San Francisco, but at least it was progress I was moving towards my goal.

On days I spent doing busy work, you know sitting at the computer and doing absolutely nothing, checking e-mail, reading Blogs, checking out forums, thinking I am actually doing work but in essence I am wasting time just getting more and more information I would not be using to get me to San Jose. Those are the days I would be heading to Sacramento, opposite direction from San Jose . It was a simple analogy but it was effective I start my day heading towards San Jose the moment I started wasting time, I would immediately check myself.

Your master plan is a living and breathing document, it changes as you change, it grows as you grow we all know that life is about advancement so it is inevitable that your plans will change as you change.

The science of getting rich workbook has a process charts, that you will use to create the steps that you need to accomplish your goal, it is a visual outline of milestone you will need to cross before you get to the next step. This is a tool to have when creating a master plan.

In the workbook you have already created a clear, concise picture of what you want the process chart simply outlines how to get there. war each step or each milestone there are task, things you have to do to accomplish each goal you set. I know I’m not saying anything new to you because by the time you get this point you already know when you set goals you have tasks you have to complete to get it done.

Right now our focus is on the master plan. Your Master Plan is the big picture for your life. It is the milestones you complete to show you that you are growing and moving in a positive direction. All of life is about growth, there is and will always be a next level, for the purpose of nature is advancement. A tree does not grow and then decide to go back to being a seed, if nothing grows backward in nature then why should we?

We all have completely different goals in mind and completely different ways of getting things done but if there’s one thing we should all have in common it is the clear and definite picture of what you want and a master plan for getting there.

There are more principles, steps and tools to living a certain way but they are all based on your knowing where you are going and taking action.
