Antique Style Key
We all want to free to do the things we want to do, to do the things we love to do, to live the life of our dreams and to become the people we always knew we could be. Basically, we all want to Be Free to Be.

I call it Personal Freedom because in order to change the world you have to start with yourself. If you want to make big changes in the life of others, you have to start with your own life. Freedom happens one person at a time. Personal freedom is a quest because you have to obtain several keys before you reach your ultimate goal. The amount of time it takes for you to attain each key is up to the individual’s effort. However, make sure you do not add the stress of racing through the quest because then you would have learned nothing.

Keys to Personal Freedom

Strong Spiritual Belief: It helps to have faith that everything will be okay. It gives you a solid foundation in which to start your journey. It provides support to you at all times. You always have someone to turn to.

Good Health: You have to take care of yourself. If worry and negative thoughts begin to affect your health, then you will not be in the frame of mind or have the strength to keep on this quest. Constantly having the flu, a cold or sometimes allergies are often a result of worrying or just your body telling you it is time for change.

A Steady Source of Income: When you are not worrying about how to pay your bills, buy food and basic necessities, you have time to pursue goals, do things for yourself and most important you are able to set the stage for your Freedom Quest. Not worrying about money helps you think about other things. I don’t subscribe to the “Money is the source of all evil” school of thought, I believe if you want to live a comfortable life you need money. I am also not saying people with money don’t have problems, you know all you have to do is turn on the television to prove that one. Money is only part of the freedom quest.

An Examined Life: Can you make an honest review of your life and who you really are? You have to be able to take a good look at yourself and the life you have created for yourself and accept what you see. You have to be able to tell yourself the truth about what you see in your life. You have to take responsibility for your life good or bad. If the later needs fixing then it is up to you to do something about it.

Support System: Family, friends, social community and an on-line community (there are so many on-line forums out there where you can get support on any question you may have.) You also need to be able to talk yourself off the proverbial ledge when you find yourself crashing emotionally.

Peace of Mind: Peace of mind is the result you get from have covered the basis on the keys listed above. Peace of mind is the ultimate goal, it is the reason you set off on the quest for freedom. It is the reason you want to do the things you want to do when you want to do it. It is the reason you want to be the person you want to be. Take a look at your ultimate goal for personal freedom, will you have peace of mind when you accomplish it?

Peace of mind is the most essential key for personal freedom. The quest for personal freedom truly begins and is enabled by peace of mind. When you have peace you can focus on your life, you can find what you truly love, you can focus on how you truly want to live, you find your true goals and the steps you need to take to accomplish those goals. Personal Freedom starts with peace of mind. The keys are the journey, peace of mind is the light at the end of the tunnel.

I think the steady source of income is probably the hardest for many people to achieve. Even with a regular job, most don’t pay enough where you’re really thinking debt free and not worrying about money whatsoever. Thankfully, if you have the rest of the things you’ve listed here, the money doesn’t seem so important!

    Chelle,
You are right about regular jobs not paying enough and with the state of the economy today things are a little harder. I believe that if you focus on the other items as you have said things will start to change… It is also important to start to seek options to create financial freedom, it can stem from reducing expenses or avoiding new ones or looking for a higher paying job. When life is in balance I feel people start to realize they have options.

    Thanks for your comment.

An examined life is my favorite, it is important to take a step back and review your actions always. Great post.
