Get Yourself a Hobby - Daily Vigilance
Posted on November 21, 2008

1. Do you have a Hobby?
2. Do you have a hobby? Well, do you?
3. Go get yourself a hobby..
Reading work related manuals or books, is not a hobby. Neither is reading self-help books, the later was a hobby I used to have until I realized it was actually called working. Neither are video games, I am addicted to GTA or shopping isn’t a hobby either and luckily not an addiction of mine.
The issue is to get a hobby at engages your brain and helps you relax. Reading can be a hobby as long as you truly enjoy it. Video games can be a hobby but I am sure we can do better… Share you hobbies with the rest of us. I will have to officially confess that I am now on the hunt for a hobby.
Remember it is all about living eternal vigilance, Have a nice day ![]()

I was just thinking of picking up knitting this week, it is cold out here.
Later
I am making model trains.
My wife’s hobby is lacemaking - using just such a pillow and bobbins as in your photograph. It is undoubtedly her passion and a true escape from work for her. When she is working at her pillow, nothing distracts her and when she finishes, she is refreshed and relaxed.
The irony here is that in an effort to create just such a relaxing hobby for me she sent me on a woodturning course to learn how to make bobbins to feed her instiable need for more and more as her lace became more complex and required more bobbins. It was intended to help me relax, and indeed it did. A workshop was built. I went on a follow up course to learn even more techniques, and became more proficient. The hobby grew - my business is now making lacemaking bobbins!
I am starting to paint again and also going back to writing haiku poems. As soon as I can take watching TV off my list of hobbies i will be just fine.
Thanks everyone for your comments

Peter, it seems that you need a hobby from your wife’s hobby. I am so happy your hobby grew into a business, mine did the same, I loved exploring personal development as hobby until I started blogging about it, though I can spend hours working on my blog, I still love the discovery but it is now work and I need something to decompress from the blog.
I love it, “A workshop was build.”
I had to learn how to create websites to feed my hobby
